On the Clubs first trip abroad

Jon Reay: Barcelona here we come!

PrintJon Reay is current head coach for our u11 academy squads Jon joined the Club only a few months after it formed in 2012 and has been involved ever since. He captained the men’s senior team in the FA Futsal Super League and has played a huge part getting the Club to where it is today. His passion for Futsal and excellent coaching skills make him an invaluable member of the team. Jon will be part of the team travelling to Barcelona for the World Futsal Cup in December, here he shares his thoughts on the trip.

If someone had said to me or Al five years ago that we’d be taking an under 10s team to compete in the Futsal World Club Championships I’m pretty sure we’d have said “Don’t be ridiculous!”

But testament to everyone connected with the club– it’s actually happening…. Barcelona here we come!!

Massive thanks must to go to the parents of the boys involved for their fantastic co-operation, making this trip of a lifetime possible.

I personally can’t wait for it and I imagine the boys are hyper-excited too – it will be an extremely proud moment for us to represent Carlisle, and indeed the UK on the world stage.

The hard work begins now as we try to prepare the team for the tournament. It will be an unbelievable experience going toe to toe with players and coaches from Spain, Brazil, USA, Japan…

In reality this opportunity is exactly what we are all striving for as a club.

This year we will see our academy teams play more competitive matches than ever before thanks to the launch of the AFL.

On top of that we will be utilising our Futsal links north and south of the border to get valuable game time for the boys.
